It’s natural to fail. Everybody makes a lot of mistakes in their life, and blogging is no exception. Blogging is by no means an easy job and requires a lot of decisions to be made. While some are right, many of the choices turn out to be wrong. Even though it is said that a person learns from their mistakes, this is not always the case. Sometimes we have to pay a huge amount to learn from those mistakes, leaving no other way in front of us than to apologize of those mistakes.
Millions of your niche blogs are available on the web. If you want to attract the reader, you need to stand out from the crowd and try to avoid the following 3 mistakes that every Amateur blogger makes during the start. Avoiding these errors will not only give you a better start to your blogging career, but will also help make your site stand out from the crowd.
What are the common mistakes an Amateur Blogger makes?
1. Not having custom domain name
Choosing a free domain name (Blogspot.com, WordPress.com) is one of the biggest mistakes every blogger makes when starting a career in blogging with a free domain name you don’t get the exposure you deserve. Even though you’re working hard, you’re not considered serious about blogging. So getting your own domain name is what I recommend to every newbie blogger, because it gives you more power over your website and lets you develop yourself as a pro blogger. Having a custom domain name helps you build your blog as a brand that helps your blog grow.
When you use your own custom domain name, not only will you keep your brand name, but there are many other advantages of using your own domain name.
2. The design of your blog
What’s the very first thing you notice when you visit a website? The first thing anyone notes, of course, is the look and feel of the website. The look of your site plays a critical role in the success of your blog. Remember the saying,
First impression is the last impression
But another mistake a newbie blogger makes is to choose a fancy website theme that they might get for free. But they don’t realize that these fancy themes don’t give the web a professional touch. If the visitor thinks that your site looks unprofessional, thy will automatically exit from your site without even reading the content.
So it’s best to choose a professional-looking theme that might attract your readers, or at least save them from distraction. Don’t hesitate to go with premium themes and make it an investment in your blog.
Furthermore, you should avoid changing the theme of your site regularly as this has a negative impact on the user. Talk about how you’d feel if you’re reading the contents of the website, and if you refresh the page, you’ll find that the look of the site has changed completely. So, it’s easier to just pick a theme and try to stick with it.
3. Don’t copy from others
When we all start blogging, writing posts seems to be a tiresome job. So we’re starting to copy posts from another popular niche blog, and with a few modifications we’re going to publish it on our site (that’s what’s called Plagiarism). This may not be the case with everyone, but the majority of newbie bloggers are facing this problem. Think about how you’re going to feel if someone starts stealing your content without your permission or you’re going to use your site as a source?
Plagiarism is something that nobody likes. In fact, the search engines hate it. Plagiarism on your blog is like committing SEO suicide.
So, you should always try to write original content, because that’s the only way you can succeed, not just in writing, but anywhere in your life.
You can do two things though:
- Get inspired by others and write better content
- Give the author reference if you are going to source their information.
Being an amateur blogger, you should take advantage of the experience of senior bloggers and try to avoid the mistakes that a newbie blogger generally makes. This will help you further grow your site in a big brand and build yourself as a popular blogger. Is there any other amateur mistake you’d like to find in this list? Don’t let me know through the comments.
